We are working hard on matters related to helping physiotherapists in New Zealand. The following is a snapshot of the Trust members advocating for you:

MRI Referral’s
While physiotherapists can make referrals for privately funded MRI’s, the ACC contract with the provider’s bars ACC payment for MRI’s referred from physiotherapists. We are working on ascertaining whether challenging the contracts would help physiotherapists.
Physiotherapists no Longer Need to be Members of PNZ to Enjoy ACC Contracts
The ACC have removed the requirement for professional body membership with Physiotherapy New Zealand to enjoy its contracts. We advocated for this change as physiotherapists should have the right to choose based on the value of membership.
PNZ Considering Co-Governance
There has been interesting correspondence regarding this. A snapshot is:
“Two governments is a recipe for chaos and anarchy”.
“If I don't like the law of one government, then I can claim to be under the law of the other government.”
“There are now nearly 200 Māori health care providers and the estimate is that this year ACC will spend $5m on them. They [may] have no degrees in their "art".”
The New Zealand Physiotherapy Trust is neutral on this matter, as our opinion is that the PNZ has many issues that need resolving and co-governance is maybe a small part of the bigger issues.
Medical Certificates
The New Zealand Physiotherapy Board confirmed that physiotherapists can provide medical certificates for time off work. We are working with various groups on changing the law to allow ACC to accept physiotherapy medical certificates. A legislative change may be required. A group of PNZ members may be working on this matter, but it is unclear on whether their pathway is correct.
PNZ Increases Subscriptions Rates
It is unclear what led the PNZ to need more money, and it is unclear how much is spent on projects that will directly benefit physiotherapists and not just PNZ.
Insurance
We continue to provide insurance to our members and our subscription rates have not changed.
